Skin Care Fundamentals

Basic Skin Science

Your skin in made up of three layers. Let's focus on the two top layers that we deal with in our everyday lives.

Epidermis - Top Layer

This is the layer of skin that we show to the world. Our outer most layer that is about as thick as a sheet of paper.
The Epidermis relies on the lower levels of the skin to send it nutrients. This layer of skin produces melanin which colours the skin and protects it from the sun.
The base of the Epidermis releases dead cells which become the top layer of the skin by the time they reach to the surface.

Dermis - Middle Layer

The Dermis makes up the main part of your skin. It contains the fibers collagen and elastin, which strengthen your skin and give it elasticity. This section of the skin is full of blood cells, nerves and muscle cells.

Anti Ageing

By using the correct skincare regime you can combat the ageing process and loss of elasticity. The process is quite simple, however most people do not begin to care for their skin properly until well into their 30's and by this point a lot of damage is already done.
