Tee's

There are three main types of casual tee's on the market you need to know about.

Crew Neck - This is your classic tee. Designed with a ring neck collar. This type of shirt is best for those who are short-average height with short-average neck length.

V Neck - This is your perfect shirt for those who are a bit taller and need to balance out the length of their neck.  A shorter V will look fine on a shorter neck too as long as it's not too deep. (avoid deep v shirts in general)

Fashion Fit - This is your hybrid between crew and v neck. It's a looser fit with unfinished edges and a deeper round collar. This suits most heights and necklines and is a great casual alternative.

Shirts

There are plenty of options on the shop shelf.
I'll save you time by dividing it into the key categories

Plain - This is your classic shirt often with a shiny appearance. Just one or two colours and it gives a clean cut look. Great for a dressier look or business occasion.

Print - Print shirts have become a massive part of the shirt scene in the past 5 or so years. These are those loud indie style shirts, often buttoned up to the collar, with designs such as tropical prints and loud colours.

Pinstripe/Polka Dot - The polka dot or pinstripe shirt is a timeless classic.  This is the perfect smart casual shirt to wear with any type of pants. (The higher the price generally the nicer the stripe/dot detailing is)

Checkered - This type of shirt varies in its level of formality. Checkered shirts are very common as a business shirt style. Go for bright checkered shirts under a dark jacket/suit or wear it over a pair of black/blue jeans with a black tie for a smart casual look.

Yeah righto Sam... But which one do I wear?!?

This is an area that depends on the individual person. There are however some simple rules to follow that will keep you looking classy.
(Remember to lay things out and check them in the mirror, if it doesn't look good simply try again.)

Casual party - Pair some Jeans/Chino's with a plain or print shirt.

Date Night - If it's casual movie go for blue jeans or a pair of chinos matched with a print shirt. If it's a sit down dinner try the black jeans with a print/plain shirt.

Smart Casual/Work function - Wear black jeans with a checkered/Polka dot shirt. Could also try a nice plain shirt  with a black or blue tie to compliment.

Other things worth knowing...

-If the shirt is really loud it'll look best under something block coloured. (For example wear a crazy print shirt under a plain black/navy suit)

-A good dress shirt will retail from about $70+

-Wearing the same colour head to toe will elongate your figure. Unless you're under 5 foot 10 this is not a good idea.
