The Basics Time Required - 2-3 Minutes

Tools - Matt Styling Wax.

To pull of this look you'll need medium-length hair. You'll want hair that is quite even and well shaped. A messy look requires balance, you don't want it to look shaggy or unkempt.

The Haircut

Take this photo to your hairdresser and get them to cut it to style. This type of hairstyle is a safe choice as it doesn't require a lot of effort from the hairdresser. The trick is making sure they don't cut it too short. Hairdressers tend to cut sides and back quite short unless told otherwise

In Hairdressing terms this is a messy, medium length hairstyle with volume.

Styling the Hair

Before using any styling product on your hair you'll want to make sure it's towel dried (for faster drying, hit it with a blowdryer on high heat for 30 seconds). The best product for this kind of look is a matte styling wax. You'll need a strong/firm hold with low shine.

1. Apply a pea sized amount of product to your fingertips.

2. Rub your finger tips together until there are no lumps.

3. Push your fingers into the roots of your hair working from back to front. Repeat on the sides and back working deep into the roots.

4. Apply more product to your finger tips. Use this product to lift the hair upwards and sidewards depending on the section of your hair. Basically play with the height of the hair moving it left and right until it sits in a good spot. Moving through the hair in zig zags can help create the look.

5. As per the picture you want the sides coming forwards. Do this by racking them forward with fingertips.

6. Spike the back of your hair a bit with your fingertips, then smooth over anything that's sticking out awkardly. 7. Practise makes perfect. Learn how high to keep the hair overtime as some people suit big hair some look better with it a bit flatter.

Suited Face Shapes

Medium length hairstyles are suitable for most face shapes, this will look best on those with thinner faces or rounded faces. If you have a wide jaw or a thick-set face then get the sides cut half length.
