Get The Look - Slicked Hairstyle

Slicked hairstyles have featured in popular culture for many years. You can wear this hairstyle formally with a suit and tie, or casually sporting a black jacket and sunglasses. This is the perfect haircut for anyone wanting a sleek look with no fringe getting in the way.

The Basics

Time Required - 2-5 Minutes

Tools - Fibre To create this look you'll need medium-long length hair. Essentially this hairstyle has front volume with the top and sides slicked back.

The Haircut

Take this photo to your hairdresser and get them to cut it to style. You'll need to ensure they leave length in the fringe with an even cut on sides and back. You want the fringe left to create the front volume when styling your hair. (Make sure the sides and back at trimmed well near the base so it doesn't cross into mullet territory.)

In Hairdressing terms this is a medium length haircut with fringe volume, styled back with a wet finish.

Styling the Hair

Before using any styling product on your hair you'll want to make sure it's at least towel dried. You're best to quickly use a blowdryer for this type of look. If you hang your head upside down and use the blowdryer on high heat for 15-30 seconds on your roots you'll create the volume required. Flip your head back upright and continue blowdrying it whilst slicking back the hair with your fingers. The best product for this kind of look is a fibre.

1. Apply a pea sized amount of product to your fingertips.

2. Rub your finger tips together until there are no lumps.

3. Push your fingers into the roots of your hair working from back to front. Repeat on sides and back of hair until all the roots have product appplied. (work in tiny zig zags from back to front)

4. Apply a little more product to your finger tips. Use this product to lift the hair upwards with your finger tips creating an even and full look. (rake the fingers through the hair lifting it up)

5. As per the picture ensure the edges are also slicked back using your finger tips.

6. Ensure the top section looks even and use your finger tips to give it a bit of height. You want it slicked back but not flat.

7. Either rake the fringe upwards and to the side as seen in the picture or simply rake it backwards with the rest of your hair. (Try both and see which works best for your face shape) 8. Hello ladies.

Suited Face Shapes

Medium length hairstyles are suitable for most face shapes, however this look has flat, sleek sides which will not suit every face shape. Best suited faceshapes are those with wider jaws and thick set features. This hairstyle is suited to all hair types. For those with thinner face shapes simply leave the sides slicked back with more volume, don't sit the hair too flat.
